Catherine Hawthorne
Modernization Coordinator
Catherine Hawthorne is Modernization Coordinator at Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of the City of New Haven. She joined Elm City Communities in 1976 and has been in her present position since 1980.
As Modernization Coordinator for Elm City Communities, Ms. Hawthorne is responsible for administrative oversight of approximately $5 million in annual Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Capital Fund Program (CFP) funds. Ms. Hawthorne monitors CFP grant compliance with federal regulatory requirements.
Prior to working for Elm City Communities, Ms. Hawthorne was a Community Planner at the Nashville-Davidson County (TN) Planning Commission engaged in data research and analysis on inner city housing, and participated in criminal victimization and gerontology research study grants at Yale University, New Haven, CT.
Ms. Hawthorne holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA and received a Master’s degree in Sociology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
